OUR PROJECTS
PROJECT 01 - SCHOOL AID

At INEDEM, we are dedicated to stepping up our efforts in addressing the needs of a rapidly growing education sector in Sierra Leone.
The main focus of the project is to support and encourage the pupils in their learning. We aim to donate approved textbooks by the Ministry of Education, learning materials, school facilities, and miscellaneous items for pupils in Primary Schools.
Approved Textbooks by the Ministry of Education
Textbooks are one of the educational inputs that have the greatest influence on learning achievement. Textbooks are relevant to improving learning outcomes in developing countries with large class sizes. Without textbooks, children can spend many of their school hours copying content from the blackboard, which severely reduces time for engaged learning. In some cases, students at all levels either lack textbooks altogether or are required to share them with their peers.
Learning Materials
Pupils in Sierra Leone are in need of school supplies. The average classroom lack the basic essential school supplies that make for a meaningful educational experience for pupils. The parents are unfortunately not in a position to provide the quality and quantity of supplies needed. The lack of school supplies negatively affects the quality of the education that the children receive.
School Facilities
Thousands of schools in Sierra Leone lack the infrastructure necessary to provide pupils with the quality education which they are legally entitled to receive. We believe that every school must have clean water, lavatories, electricity, and furniture.
Water
It is estimated that a number of schools in Sierra Leone are without potable water. Lack of water affects the pupils as it can cause tiredness, headaches, lack of concentration, reduced mental performance and dry skin.
Lavatories
Schools with lavatories are often insufficient in number and out of service due to an inadequate understanding among users about how they function and lack of maintenance and upkeep.
Electricity
It is estimated that a large number of schools in Sierra Leone are without electricity. Availability of electricity is of vital importance to help facilitate schools’ activities and overall significantly improves learning environments. For example, it avoids unnecessary cancellation of lessons due to ill-lit classrooms and allows ventilation and use of computers and internet.
Furniture
Lack of furniture is a growing concern. Pupils are forced to sit on cold floors during lessons because of shortage of chairs and desks. In some cases, they may have to share with their peers.
This project is by no means an easy feat, but through cooperation and community empowerment we believe we can facilitate progress in this area.
